This special issue aims to provide a critical and multidisciplinary analysis of second chance education initiatives across Europe. It seeks contributions that examine their role in addressing early school leaving, promoting educational equity, and supporting young people’s educational and professional trajectories. The issue also invites reflections on the tensions between inclusive educational aims and the potential reproduction of educational inequalities. Contributions from educational research, vocational education and training, sociology, policy studies, and related fields are welcome, including perspectives that highlight the experiences of practitioners working in second-chance education contexts.
