One of the highlights of European Vocational Skills Week 2018 will be the ‘Awards for VET Excellence’. This year the awards ceremony will take place during the Closing Event on 9 November 2018. The winners will be announced by Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility. Most of the awards are organised by entities external to the Commission, though the Commission retains the overall management of the process, as well as the final award ceremony.

Why VET Excellence Awards?

The awards highlight best practice and recognise excellence in Vocational Education and Training (VET) all over Europe. By showcasing the best examples of VET, we will provide visibility and recognition for good work – and motivate individuals and organisations that work with VET. This serves to build new networks, expand existing ones, and create new career opportunities. Winners of the awards will hold the prestige of becoming ambassadors in their field.

By using the awards as benchmarks, and creating a movement with its focus on excellence in VET, the initiative reaches far beyond the usual VET stakeholders. It ultimately raises the attractiveness of VET – one of the aims of the European Vocational Skills Week.

How are the awards organised?

Step 1: Jury

For each award, in categories 1-4, a jury of independent members was established. The various juries each identified two nominees.

Step 2: Public voting

For each award, from the two nominees identified by the jury, the general public will be invited to choose their preferred candidate through on-line voting. Voting opened on 18 October 2018 and will close on 7 November 2018 at 18:00.
