Be part of the conversation shaping the future of vocational education and training in a rapidly changing world
In May 2027, the Centre for Researching Education and Labour (REAL Centre) at the University of the Witwatersrand will host the VETNET Crossing Boundaries Conference—a leading international conference on vocational education and training (VET), skills development and workforce transformation.
For the first time, this prestigious conference will be held on the African continent, creating a unique opportunity to bring African research, policy experience and innovation into global dialogue with international perspectives.
We invite researchers, policymakers, practitioners, TVET and other vocational education institutions, industry representatives, organised labour and development partners to submit abstracts that advance thinking and practice in VET, skills systems, workforce development and the future of work.
The conference will explore five thematic streams:
- Just Energy Transition and VET
- VET Curriculum Transformation and System Responsiveness
- VET as a Skills Ecosystem Anchor
- VET, Youth and Learning Pathways into Employment
- VET and Work-Based Learning
Join us in contributing to critical conversations that will strengthen research, inform policy and support the responsiveness of VET systems to economic transformation, technological change, and the transition towards more sustainable and inclusive economies and societies.
Organising Committee:
Professor Stephanie Matseleng Allais, Professor Presha Ramsarup and Dr Christof Nägele
