The World Education Research Association (WERA) is an association of major national, regional, and international specialty research associations dedicated to advancing education research as a scientific and scholarly field. WERA undertakes initiatives that are global in nature and thus transcend what any one association can accomplish in its own country, region, or area of specialization. Member associations work together to address such issues as building capacity and interest in education research, advancing education research policies and practices, and promoting the use and application of education research around the world.
The WERA network for Internationalisation of Research in Vocational Education and Training (IRNVET) cover a broad range of research activities in vocational education and training (VET). It takes into account different levels of steering and practice linking system-related issues to cultural aspects of VET. The field of research in VET covers initial and continuing vocational training, both school-based and workplace-based learning provisions as well as the development of pedagogic expertise for vocational and professional education.
The IRNVET raise awareness of the impact of research with its mapping activities, thematic ‘task forces’ and with IRNVET events in the conferences of WERA and of ‘regional’ associations and networks. The IRNVET support the International Journal for Research in Vocational Education and Training (www.ijrvet.net) together with VETNET European Research Network in Vocational Education and Training. IRNVET will also work together with the VETNET to develop a Summer School for emerging researchers.
