EERN Online Event: Behind the Scenes

On 29th of February, Junmin and Susanne (EERN-VETNET) offered the Online event “Behind the Scenes – what can we learn from journal publishers?”. The aim was to introduce publishers’ perspectives regarding the publication processes of international journals, with special regard to needs and questions of emerging researchers.

Our round table guests were: Stephanie Allais (Journal of Vocational Education and Training), Silke Lange and Christoph Porcher (International Journal of Vocational Education Studies), Elizabeth Knight (special issue editor of International Journal of Training Research), Jay Plasman (associated editor of International Journal of Training and Development from the perspective of a reviewer) and Léna Krichewsky-Wegener (from the perspective of the Editorial Office of International Journal for Research in Vocational Education and Training).

A warm thanks to all of you, we highly appreciate your openness and honesty!

Questions that were discussed in detail and from different perspectives were, for example: What are the most common reasons for manuscripts being rejected? Did the Editors notice the impact of generative AI in the manuscript submissions lately? In what ways could researchers benefit and use AI? Are there research topics that Editors have been missing/waiting to see among the submissions?

We thank JVET’s Early Career Researchers Group who also invited their members.

Thanks also to all interested participants! We’re looking forward to our next meetings.
